Jacquemart, Henri Alfred (1824-1896)
Alfred Jacquemart gained his reputation as a world class sculptor by producing excellent bronze figures of animals, saints and historic people throughout the centuries for different monuments. His works included the two bronze griffins from the fountain of Saint-Michel (see below).
Jacquemart did the majority of his studies at the Salon des Beaux-Arts where he devoted himself to his work. After which he participated in the Salon de Paris from 1847 to 1879, where he recieved many distinctions.
Later he travelled to Egypt and Turkey and this inspired his later work. On his return he started producing a number of smaller animal bronzes and furnished some models to the house of the Christofle goldsmith shop.
