The Mayfair Antiques & Fine Art Fair – 4th to 7th Jan 2018

A surprise trip away over Christmas was a very welcome break allowing us to recharge our batteries and get ready for the forthcoming New Year – and straight back to work it was with the eagerly anticipated Mayfair Antiques Fair over the first weekend of January.

 

This Antiques Fair is an exemplary occasion that brings together over 40 of the UK’s top antique dealers in a bespoke, boutique event that is strictly vetted for quality. The organisers are keen to ensure that there is a wide selection of stock represented to entice visitors with the finest examples of paintings, sculpture, jewellery, glass, silver and objects of art to tempt and enthral. Situated at the forefront of the sumptuous Westminster Ballroom we were very careful to bring an enticing selection of our finest stock and were very pleased with the look and location of our stand.

 

 

 

As specialist dealers in Art Deco and Art Nouveau sculpture and glass we are aware that there is usually a strong and vibrant following for all things Art Deco in London, our capital city, however this outing certainly broke the mould with a resurgence in sales and interest in all things ‘Art Nouveau’. Both old and new clients were keen to acquire many Art Nouveau bronze busts and figurines as well as some of the finest Daum and Gallé Art Nouveau glass objects that we have been able to source. This certainly suggests that the luxurious organic symbolism of Art Nouveau has become the new fashion trend for 2018.

 

 The opening evening with live music and welcoming drinks created a wonderful buzz around the whole show and an atmosphere conducive to selling and all four days of opening had a steady and ample flow of visitors.

In particular, it was rewarding to achieve important sales to a number of new, high profile clients from the USA and the Middle East who are keen collectors. This is why we find it is so important to attend and exhibit at quality vetted fairs throughout the year. There is no replacement for the personal interaction that may be achieved in such conducive surroundings.

 

Location, location, location

I have to add a note that the location of this event is paramount to its success. For visitors, it is easy to get to in the heart of Mayfair and the ambience of this prestigious area permeates throughout the event increasing a sense of interest and willingness to buy. For dealers, there is also the added attraction of being able to finish a good day’s work with an unrivalled choice of restaurants and hostelries within its immediate vicinity.
