ABOUT
Val Saint Lambert, Belgium

Val Saint Lambert is one of Europe’s most distinguished crystal manufacturers, founded in 1826 in Seraing, near Liège, Belgium. The factory was established on the site of a former Cistercian abbey, from which it takes its name. Its creation was encouraged by Belgium’s growing industrial strength in the early nineteenth century, and it quickly became renowned for fine lead crystal of exceptional clarity and brilliance.
During the nineteenth century, Val Saint Lambert gained international acclaim, exhibiting at major world fairs in Paris and London. By the late 1800s it employed thousands of skilled workers and exported globally. The firm became especially celebrated for deeply cut crystal, richly coloured overlay (cut-to-clear) wares, and later for innovative Art Nouveau and Art Deco designs. Designers such as Philippe Wolfers, Joseph Simon and Charles Graffart contributed refined artistic direction.
Quality has always been central to Val Saint Lambert’s reputation. Its high lead content crystal produces remarkable weight, resonance and light refraction. Hand-cut decoration, precise faceting and vibrant ruby, emerald, blue and amber overlays are hallmarks of the best pieces. Today, antique and vintage examples remain highly regarded by collectors for their craftsmanship, colour intensity and sculptural character.
