An exceptional late 19th-century Art Nouveau bronze study depicting a seated female musician, gracefully poised upon a large stool while delicately playing a mandolin. Beautifully sculpted, the figure is dressed in richly textured medieval-inspired robes adorned with exquisite hand-chased decoration, showcasing the remarkable craftsmanship of the period. The finely cast bronze is complemented by a masterfully carved ivory face and hands, creating a striking contrast highlighting the elegance and realism of the composition. Raised on its original circular bronze base and signed by the well regarded French sculptor Louis Carrier Belleuse

ABOUT

Louis-Robert Carrier-Belleuse (4 July 1848 – 14 June 1913) was an incredibly talented French artist who could do it all. Growing up in a household where creativity was the family business, he worked as an understudy to his father, Albert-Ernest Carrier-Belleuse, and his uncle, Pierre Carrier-Belleuse. Under their guidance, he completely mastered painting, sculpture, and ceramics.
Louis won major acclaim for his realistic paintings that captured the hustle and bustle of everyday Paris street life. But he did not stop at canvas. He brought his artistic eye to everyday objects, serving as the director of the famous Choisy-le-Roi pottery factory, where he designed beautiful ceramic pieces. He truly showed the world that fine art and everyday design belong together.
