ABOUT

Samuel Lipschitz (sometimes spelled Lipchytz or Lipszyc; born Salomon Lipszyc in Pabianice, Poland, 1880; died Auschwitz, 1943) was a Polish‑French sculptor associated with the School of Paris. He cultivated his craft from a young age—initially learning wood carving and tapestry-making in Łódź—before relocating to Berlin and ultimately settling in Paris at the artist community La Ruche, where he worked primarily in marble, ivory, and bronze Bureau d’art Ecole de Paris.

Lipschitz became known for his elegant Art Deco sculptures of dancers and female figures, often combining bronze with ivory or marble bases. Stylistically akin to Demétre Chiparus, his work was featured frequently in Paris salons between roughly 1918 and 1935 Roseberys LondonInvaluable+1. In 1943, during the Nazi occupation of France, he was arrested and deported to Auschwitz, where he was tragically murdered
