An impressive bronze group representing the Three Graces, each figure in classical attire, their dresses clinging to their lythe bodies to accentuate their hidden eroticism. The bronze with a rich black/brown patination lightly rubbed to a red/brown colour, the sculptural group raised on a triform base to compliment the triple aspect of the theme. A fascinating rendition of this famous subject from one of Paris’s leading foundries F Barbedienne.
The Graces were daughters of Zeus, the King of the gods, and in Greek Mythology they were represented by: Aglaia, the Grace that symbolized Beauty, Euphrosyne, the Grace of Delight and Thalia, the Grace of Blossom. According to the Greek poet Pindar, these enchanting goddesses were created to fill the world with pleasant moments and goodwill.
