ABOUT
Edward Hald (1883–1980) was a Swedish artist and one of the most influential glassmakers of the 20th century. Trained as a painter, he joined Orrefors Glassworks in 1917 and became a leading figure in the development of modern Scandinavian glass. Hald is best known for pioneering graal glass, a complex technique involving layered, engraved glass encased within clear crystal. His work combined technical innovation with restrained elegance, often featuring stylized figures, nautical themes, and mythological motifs. As artistic director at Orrefors, Hald helped establish Swedish art glass as an international standard of quality and design.
