VIBERT, ALEXANDRE

Alexandre Vibert, born in Épinay-sur-Orge on February 13, 1847 and died on February 25, 1909 in Jouars-Pontchartrain, he was a French sculptor in the Art Nouveau style.

Vibert was a pupil of Alexandre-Victor Lequien (1822-1905), Emmanuel Frémiet and Eugène Robert (1831-1912). He married in July 1871 in Paris to Maria Angèle Maissa (widow Orengo) and took over the cardboard business of his wife from 1871 to 1882 1. He exhibited at the Salon of French Artists from 1883 to 1907 and obtained an honorable mention there in 1893. An imposing bronze group Love Laughs at Wisdom was noticed at the Salon of 1885 2. He was especially famous in the 1890s for his works of art in bronze and pewter produced, among others, by the founder Siot-Decauville3, in particular the pitchers La Pêche (1893) 4 and La Chasse (1894)5. His works are signed “A. Vibert”. He committed suicide by firearm on February 25, 1909 at his home in Jouars-Pontchartrain.
