ABOUT

Gennarelli, Amadeo (1881-1943)

Gennarelli was an Italian sculptor born in Naples. In 1909, he moved to Paris to spend the rest of his life there to live and work and was a pupil of Francesco Jerace. In Paris he was in contact with many artists/sculptors during the "Roaring Twenties". He was a member of the ‘Société des Artistes Francais' for which he regularly took part in the Salons. He became a well known sculptor who worked in bronze, marble, ceramics and on occasion, wood.  Two of his more well-known works are "Carrier Pigeon" and "Towards Destiny". Our example of a young man riding a motorcycle is particularly rare and characterises the freedom, speed and motion that was so prevalent in the Art Deco era.
