Julius Paul Schmidt-Felling, German 1835 ~ 1920 was a highly accomplished German sculptor born in Berlin, whose long and productive career spanned more than six decades. Working during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, he became known for his finely modelled bronze figures that reflected both Realist and Art Nouveau influences. His subjects were remarkably diverse, ranging from athletes, warriors, hunters, labourers and mythological figures to charming depictions of children and animals.

Schmidt-Felling's work was frequently cast by leading Berlin foundries, including the renowned Gladenbeck foundry, helping to establish his reputation among collectors of quality German bronzes. Many of his sculptures display a strong sense of movement, naturalism and narrative appeal. During the early Art Deco period, he also embraced the fashionable chryselephantine technique, combining bronze with carved ivory.
