" Hutschenreuter Art Deco Vase" designed by Friedrich Spahr

An elegant Hutschenreuter Art Deco porcelain vase of baluster form, finished in vivid cobalt blue. The Hutschenreuter Porcelain Factory

The Hutschenreuther porcelain factory is one of Germany’s most respected porcelain manufacturers. It was founded in 1814 by Carolus Magnus Hutschenreuther in Hohenberg an der Eger, in Bavaria, near the border with what is now the Czech Republic. The location was chosen for its access to the raw materials essential for porcelain production, including kaolin, feldspar, and quartz.

Initially the factory produced simple white porcelain wares, but during the nineteenth century it developed a reputation for finely decorated tableware and decorative objects. After the founder’s death, the business expanded significantly under the direction of his son, Lorenz Hutschenreuther, who established a second factory in Selb in 1857.

By the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, Hutschenreuther porcelain was internationally recognised for its high-quality craftsmanship, elegant forms, and surface decoration.
