ABOUT
Carl Kauba – Austrian, 1865 to 1922 ~ was born August 13, 1865 in Vienna, Austria. The son of a shoemaker, Kauba chose to follow his calling into the world of art. A student of Carl Waschmann and Stefan Schwarts in Vienna, he specialised in animal subjects and cold painted bronzes depicting scenes from the American West. Never visiting America himself, Kauba was inspired by the romantic stories written by the German Carl May and the many photographs and illustrations of Indians and cowboys which he had seen. Kauba worked closely with Franz Bergman at the Bergman foundry producing many commercial bronzes under the auspices of the most important Viennese workshop at the turn of the century.
