A powerful and emotive bronze sculpture portraying a tender yet sensual moment between a young man and young woman, their bodies intimately entwined. The male figure gently embraces the female, pressing a kiss to her cheek while his hand cradles her face and rests firmly on her waist, suggesting both affection and desire. Rendered in a rich brown patina, the sculpture showcases Lepcke’s masterful command of human anatomy, emotional expression, and naturalistic detail. Standing on a textured circular base, signed Ferd Lepke and inscribed with the H Gladenbeck foundry mark

ABOUT
Ferdinand Lepke (born March 23, 1866, Coburg – died March 12, 1909, Berlin) was a German sculptor best known for his classical and heroic figurative works. He studied at the Berlin Academy of Arts from the 1880s, becoming a disciple of Fritz Schaper, and was influenced by neoclassicism while later incorporating elements of Jugendstil and emerging 20th-century trends. Lepke produced both monumental public sculptures and more intimate bronze and marble figures—“Phryne,” “Diana (Bogenspannerin),” and “The Writer” among them. His pieces often show elegant realistic form, evocative expressions, and strong attention to anatomical detail.
