ABOUT

Louis Icart, French 1888 to 1950

Louis Icart began his career in Paris experimenting with various mediums. While his early work was illustrating clothing lines for French fashion houses he later began to create dry-point etchings that depicted beautiful, free woman in their seductive misadventures. During the mid-decade of the 20's, his career exploded. Once the Hollywood collectors discovered this master of Art Deco it was nearly impossible for Icart to keep up with the demand. It was the appreciation of popular taste that maintained the Icart vogue, which has been renewed with the resurgence of the Art Deco period over the last 10 years. It was Icart that originated the famous saying: "Come up and see my etchings some time." He was indeed a master etcher who knew how to please with his light and delightful subjects.
